Ann Burns / Rhythmanalysis+

Rhythmanalysis+ explores sensory materiality using mixed realities and the framework of rhythmanalysis to capture Island life during the pandemic. Revealing relationships pertaining to territories; the work analyses how these spaces are inhabited, remembered, imagined and shaped by the experience of everyday life. Through technological mediation, daily patterns, sensorial experiences, and cyclical behaviours on Sherkin Island were documented. Archipelagic thinking supported sonic and visual cartographies, that highlighted both unity and isolation. A 360 degree graphic score was developed from environmental interviews and used to construct virtual sculptures, where lines in space represent walking, facing into a salty breeze, the sounds of the tide, meeting a bat at twilight.
